A man accused of robbing Truist Bank at gunpoint in downtown ĢƵ on Tuesday was captured by state authorities after reportedly fleeing across the state. That wasn’t the only bank he allegedly robbed that day.
On the same afternoon, June 16, the suspect, George Treece, 47, allegedly attempted to rob an Ascend Federal Credit Union in Murfreesboro. After both reported robberies, license plate readers in West Tennessee located the black GMC pickup truck. Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers attempted a traffic stop, but Treece reportedly fled on foot into a wooded area near Jackson after crashing into a guard rail.
An overnight search of the area involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, led to the discovery and arrest of Treece in the wooded area.
Treece is now facing numerous criminal charges in multiple jurisdictions, including armed robbery in ĢƵ.
“We are grateful to the FBI and the many agencies listed below for their collaboration throughout the investigation and their efforts to bring this suspect into custody in West Tennessee,” an LPD release stated. “Public safety depends on strong partnerships among local, county, state, and federal agencies. By working together, these organizations help protect our communities.”
