A man accused of an attempted robbed robbery of a ĢƵ jewelry store is behind bars after being involved in a police chase on the far side of the state.
According to ĢƵ Police, the suspect, Anthony Tilghman, 44, a North Carolina man, was located by Memphis Police hours after the June 12 robbery attempt after a license plate reader detected the white Infiniti he was believed to be driving. As MPD attempted to stop the vehicle, Tilghman allegedly fled from officers, resulting in a pursuit.
Tilghman was eventually apprehended by MPD, and a search of the Infiniti uncovered evidence ĢƵ Police say further connected him to the attempted robbery at Winfrey’s Rone Jewelry last Friday.
LPD said Tilghman allegedly forced employees of the West Main Street jewelry store into a back room at gunpoint when an armed employee confronted him. At that point, he reportedly fled the scene. Investigators are continuing to determine his movements between ĢƵ and Memphis.
The attempted robbery occurred around 9:45 a.m., and during the overnight hours was when he was located by MPD.
Tilghman is facing charges related to the pursuit in Memphis as well as charges in ĢƵ for attempted armed robbery, four counts of aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
“We appreciate the diligence of our detectives, who quickly identified the white Infiniti and its license plate number from surveillance footage and promptly utilized our SafeNet license plate reader system,” an LPD spokesperson said. “We are also grateful for the strong partnership and assistance provided by the Memphis Police Department.
